GOLDEN JUBILEE
On her twenty-first birthday, on 21st April 1947, the young Princess Elizabeth made the speech which showed her attitude to her future role as Queen. She said “I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great Imperial family to which we all belong.” Duty has been the watchword of her reign. For fifty years she has travelled extensively throughout the world, promoting British and Commonwealth interests and throughout the many social changes and changes in attitude to th Royal Family she has remained steadfast. She has faced all her recent difficulties with a dignity which is an example to us all.
